Microsoft Teams - Resolve TPM Error

Issue/Question

• Why is Microsoft Teams not letting me log in?
• Why is Teams giving an error of the Trusted Platform Module has malfunctioned when trying to sign in to Teams?
• Why is Teams giving me an error code 80090030?

Environment

• Oregon State University
• Microsoft Office
• Microsoft Teams 

Cause/Explanation

If you are seeing this error, you may need to disable something called "modern authentication".

Resolution

Method 1 - Disable Modern Authentication

1. Close all Microsoft Applications via Task Manager.
2. Back up all your important documents and files.
3. Open Regedit.msc.
4. Click on File and export your current registry keys as a backup. 
5. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Identity
6. Once you are in the Identity folder, on the right side, click Edit and New->DWORD(32) 
7. Name it EnableADAL and give it a value of 0
8. Restart the system and try opening Microsoft Teams again.
