Issue: Canvas - "Couldn’t find valid settings for this link" error when clicking on Canvas Assignment

Issue/Question

• When I click on a Canvas assignment I see the error message "Couldn’t find valid settings for this link" at the top of the page and I am redirected to my Canvas course Home page instead of the Canvas assignment page.

Resolution/Answer

If you see the error message “Couldn’t find valid settings for this link” when trying to access/edit a Canvas assignment, please use these instructions to access the Edit page for the assignment: 

1. Click on the Assignments tab in the Canvas course menu 
2. Locate the assignment you want to edit and click the three vertical dots located to the right of the assignment 
3. Click Edit in the drop-down menu 
4. Click More Options in the pop-out window
5. Change the Submission Type from External Tool to another submission type or click Find to select the correct External Tool for the assignment.
