MS Teams - Configure Camera and Microphone

Issue/Question

  • My camera does not work in Microsoft Teams

Resolution

Check Privacy Settings

To check your privacy settings in Windows:

  1. Press the Windows key
  2. Type: Privacy
  3. Select "Privacy Settings"
  4. Select "Camera" on the left
    • Scroll down to the section called "Allow desktop apps to access your camera"; set this to "On" (Microsoft Teams should be listed in this section)
  5. Select "Microphone" on the left
    • Scroll down to the section called "Allow desktop apps to access your camera"; set this to "On" (Microsoft Teams should be listed in this section)
  6. Quit and restart Teams

To check your privacy settings in macOS:

  1. Open System Preferences
  2. Select "Security & Privacy"
  3. Select the Unlock icon
  4. Select Camera within the list on the left
    • Make sure the checkbox for Teams is selected on the right
  5. Select Microphone
    • Make sure the checkbox for Teams is selected here too
  6. Quit and restart Teams

Select Camera and Microphone in Teams

Follow these steps to select the correct camera to use in Teams:

  1. Click on your profile icon in the upper-right and select Settings
  2. Select "Devices"
  3. In the "Camera" menu, select your camera; it will probably be called "Microsoft Camera Front"
  4. You should see a preview below of what your camera sees

Install the Teams App

If you are using Teams in a web browser, try downloading and installing the Teams app instead: https://products.office.com/en-us/microsoft-teams/download-app

Apply Updates

You may need to apply operating system updates or update the driver for your webcam. Contact the IS Service Desk or your department IT team for assistance.
