Issue/Question
- When someone sends me a chat message in Teams, I do not receive an email notification.
Environment
- Oregon State University
- Employee, Student or Associate
- Teams
Explanation
This article is about email notifications from Teams chat. For issues with visible and audible notifications within the Teams app, see: MS Teams - Configure Notifications
Resolution
In the Teams application:
- Click on your profile image in the upper-right
- Select "Settings"
- Select "Notifications"
- Next to "Chat message" set that to "Banner and email"
- You may also want to set "Banner and email" for: "Replies to conversations I started" and "Replies to conversations I replied to"
- Set "Missed activity emails" to "As soon as possible" or another time frame as you prefer
Teams will only send emails if you are inactive for a couple of minutes. If you have the Teams app or web page open on any device (including mobile devices) it may see you as active. Once you have confirmed the settings above, close and exit the Teams app, wait a few minutes, and then ask someone to send you a chat to test. They should see the presence bubble next to your icon as either yellow (for away) or a gray X (for offline).
