Office 365 Installation Error

Issue/Question

  • Microsoft Office 365 installation got stuck at 2 percent?
  • Microsoft Office 365 is taking a long time to install?

Environment

  • Oregon State University
  • CN computer
  • Office 365

Cause/Explanation

Group policy might be the reason why the installation is getting stuck. It might be blocking the read/write from App data. 

Resolution

Contact the Service Desk for assistance. Service Desk will perform the following steps:

  1. Move the computer to NOGPO OU (CN\NOGPO or CN\Information Services\TSS\CN\Testing\No GPO).
    1. Connect to NWS-Term4 via Remote Desktop
    2. Open AD Users & Computers
    3. Right-Click on the tss.oregonstate.edu domain and select Find
    4. In the Find drop-down, change from Users, Contacts and Groups to Computers
    5. In the Computer name field, enter the PC name
    6. Click right on the computer name in search results, and click move
  2. Kill Installation process from the taskbar.
  3. Connect to OSU VPN from the customer's system.
  4. Open Command Prompt, run: gpupdate /force.
  5. Run the installation again (Restart the system if you can't run the installation).
  6. Once the installation goes through, move the computer back to the original OU.
