Issue/Question
- Duo Mobile support for Android 7.0 and below ends on February 1, 2020.
Environment
- Oregon State University
- Duo
- Android
Cause/Explanation
Beginning February 1, Android users running version 7.0 or earlier will no longer be able to download Duo Mobile from the Google Play store. This means that Android users running version 7.0 and trying to install the app will need to first upgrade their device to version 8.0.
For more information about Duo Mobile and Android version support, see: https://help.duo.com/s/article/1872?language=en_US.
Resolution
If you are an Android user running version 7.0 or earlier who has not yet downloaded Duo Mobile from Google Play, you will need to update your device to at least version 8.0 in order to download the app.
This does not impact Android users running version 7.0 or earlier who already have the Duo Mobile app downloaded on their device; Duo authentication on these devices will continue to function as usual. However, it is still strongly recommended that you update your device to version 8.0 or greater. If you reset your Android 7.0 phone, you will not be able to download the Duo app and will need other means of Duo authentication
What if I can't update my device?
If you aren't able to update your Android device to 8.0 or greater, there are other Duo authentication options available: https://is.oregonstate.edu/duo/how-it-works.
