After your Tableau license purchase has been finalized, use these instructions to install Tableau Desktop.


To install Tableau Desktop:

  1. Download the Tableau Desktop installer from Tableau Support website at
    1. Note: Tableau requires you to have an account on their website to download the install file for Tableau Desktop. If you don't have an account fill in the sign up form on the page linked to above and follow the instructions provided by Tableau

  2. Run the installer. Check the box next to "I have read and accept the terms of the license agreement." Then click the Install button
  3. Click the Yes button in the Windows User Account Control Pop-up to allow installer to proceed (applies to Windows platform only).
  4. Installer is installing the software on your computer. Wait until the installer finishes and launches Tableau Desktop.
  5. When Tableau Desktop launches, you will see the Tableau Registration pop-up screen. Click the "Activate Tableau" link just below "Almost there".
  6. In the next screen, click Activate with a product key.
  7. In the next screen, enter your product key. Click the Activate button to finish.

Your Tableau Desktop installation is now completed and activated.

Note: If you ever need to reactivate your product key (for example, license has expired and then renewed), you can do so by going to the menu Help > Manage Product Keys, a pop-up will appear where you can deactivate your old product key as well as activate a new product key.
