Issue/Question
- How do I reset my Windows profile password after changing my ONID password?
- I changed my ONID password, and now I can't login to my computer.
Environment
- Oregon State University
- Employee, Student Employee
- OSU Domain-Joined Computer
- ONID Account, other Active Directory Account
Explanation
If you use an OSU-managed Windows computer off the OSU network, you will need to follow the steps below after you change your ONID or other AD password.
Resolution
Use VPN on a Remote OSU Domain-Joined Computer
- Login to your computer with your current/old password
- Visit onid.oregonstate.edu to change your password
- Connect to the OSU VPN (login with your new ONID password)
- Press Ctrl-Alt-Del, and lock the screen
- Login at the Windows login screen with your new password
On-Campus with an OSU Domain-Joined Computer
If you have a laptop, you can also come to campus and follow these steps instead:
- Login to your computer with your current/old password
- Connect to the OSU network (wired or wireless)
- Visit onid.oregonstate.edu to change your password
- Press Ctrl-Alt-Del, and lock the screen
- Login at the Windows login screen with your new password
After following the above steps, you may need to "forget" the OSU_Secure or eduroam wireless network in order to reset your saved password in wireless settings.
