How To Find The Computer Name

Environment

• Oregon State University
• Windows
• MacOS
• Linux

Resolution

Windows: 

1. Find computer name via About your PC.
   1. Click on the start menu.
   2. Search for "About your PC" and hit enter.
   3. The system details will be displayed, look for "Device name."

MacOS

1. Navigate to the top-left corner of your desktop and click on the Apple menu.
2. Click on About This Mac.
3. Click on More Info.
4. The system details will be displayed, look for "Name."

Linux

• Option 1: On home screen, Hit [ctrl+alt+t] to open terminal.
  • Click on applications
    • Click on Accessories and then click on terminal 
  • Or else, navigate to the menu bar, then show applications and search for terminal.
     
• Option 2: Once terminal is open, type "hostname" and hit enter 
  • Other commands:
    • hostnamectl
    • cat /proc/sys/kernel/hostname
• Option 3: The terminal will return the computer name
