Exchange - Safelinks Breaks One-Time Link Emailed to Me

Issue/Question

Microsoft SafeLinks re-encodes all URL's on incoming email messages in Outlook. When you click on a link, Microsoft "checks" the website and makes sure it's safe to visit before they let you through.  Occasionally there are sites who's link only allow a single visit and SafeLink uses up that click.  Examples of this include password reset messages for some sites.

Environment

  • Oregon State
  • Exchange Email

Resolution

Note: This process should only be used for known legitimate links that have proven to break when using SafeLinks as this bypasses measures to keep your account safe.

  1. Have the website generate the email.
  2. Copy the link from the email. (Do NOT click on the link)
  3. Browse to https://www.o365atp.com
  4. Paste the link into the Paste SafeLinks URL: box
  5. Copy the URL from the Decoded URL: box
  6. Paste the URL into a new browser tab to visit that site without SafeLink
