Issue/Question
- How do I create a web location where people without Box accounts can upload files? I don't want the uploaders to be able to see each other's files.
Environment
- Oregon State University
- Box
Explanation
In Box, this can be done with a "file request" or "email uploads."
Resolution
Method 1 - Create a File Request
A file request is a form you create that allows people to upload files without needing a Box account.
The steps to setup a file request are here: https://support.box.com/hc/en-us/articles/360045304813-Using-File-Request-to-get-Content-from-Anyone
Method 2 - Enable Email Uploads on a Folder
Here are the steps for email submission to Box:
- Create a new folder, e.g. called "Email Submissions"
- Right-click on the folder and select "Settings"
- Scroll down to "Uploading"
- Put a check next to "Allow uploads to this folder via email"
- Copy the email address generated and send it to the people who will be contributing files
Note that the file size limit for email uploads is 50MB: https://support.box.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043697314-Understand-the-Maximum-File-Size-You-Can-Upload-to-Box#:~:text=The%20maximum%20file%20size%20limit,Business%3A%205%20GB
