1. Top Hat's Presentation Tool is a desktop application. It can be minimized to a small window when not in use and you can bring it to full screen when you need to launch a question. When it is in a minimized stage, it floats on top of the applications and materials you are using on your computer--it may be a Powerpoint presentation, or a PDF document, or an image. The Presentation Tool gives you the flexibly in choosing the presentation platforms and methods in class, and at the same time, allows you to launch questions quickly without having to exit the program you are using in class.
For best experience, please make sure that your computer operating system is no older than:
- Mac OS X High Sierra
- Windows 8
Please follow these steps to download the Presentation Tool:
- Enable Top Hat in your Canvas course menu (settings>navigation>enable Top Hat>save)
- Click on Top Hat, choose "log in using existing account" (if you do not have an account yet, you can choose "create an account"
- Choose "Oregon State University", and log in using ONID
- On the top right corner of the page, click on the round black question mark icon
- Click on "Presentation Tool" on the drop down menu and follow the prompt to install
Top Hat Presentation Tool is installed on all general purpose classrooms.
2. Like many other technologies, the Top Hat Presentation Tool has periodic updates to improve its features and security or to fix issues. Some of these updates do not require instructors to download a new version of the Presentation Tool, but sometimes a new version must be downloaded and installed. UIT Academic Technologies ensures the latest version of the Presentation Tool is installed on all general purpose classroom computers. For instructors who need to update the Presentation Tool on their personal device, please follow the steps above.
