Updating ArcGIS License - How To Steps

Issue/Question

Environment

  • Oregon State University
  • ArcGIS Desktop
  • ArcGIS Pro
  • Windows (64x)
  • MAC
  • ArcGIS Application

Resolution

If connecting from off campus, make sure to connect to the Campus VPN in order to access the software server.

ArcGIS Pro

  1. On your computer open file explorer and navigate to the file location \\software.oregonstate.edu\Software\ArcGIS
    • Enter your username as onid\username and ONID password if prompted.
      NOTE: If the full path \\software.oregonstate.edu\Software\ArcGIS fails to connect to server, shorten the path to \\software.oregonstate.edu\Software then navigate to folder ArcGIS.
  2. Open the "ArcGIS Pro" folder.
  3. Copy "ArcGIS Pro SingleUse [Year].prvc" onto the desktop.
  4. Open ArcGIS Pro and click the settings icon in the bottom right corner.
  5. Select licensing from the side menu.
  6. Click the box that says "Configure your licensing options".
  7. Make sure single user license is selected for license type.
  8. Click the "authorize" button in the bottom left.
  9. Select the option "I have already receieved a license file..." and browse to find the copied license file.
  10. Activate with ESRI online.
  11. Run the ArcGIS application again to ensure it's working.

ArcGIS Desktop

  1. On your computer open file explorer and navigate to the file location \\software.oregonstate.edu\Software\ArcGIS
    1. Enter your username as onid\username and ONID password if prompted.
  2. Open the "ArcGIS Desktop" folder.
  3. Copy "ArcGIS Desktop SingleUse [Year].prvc" onto the desktop.
  4. Right click and open ArcGIS Administrator as an admin.
  5. Select the "desktop" folder in the window that opens.
  6. Male sure "Advanced (ArcInfo) Single Use" is the selected license type.
  7. Click "Authorize Now...".
  8. Select "I have recieved an authorization file..." and browse to find the copied license file.
  9. Activate with ESRI online.
  10. Run the ArcGIS application again to ensure it's working.
