Explanation

In some cases you may want to use some of the features of Outlook without connecting to an Exchange mailbox or other mailbox. For example, Outlook is needed to access PST mail archive files.

Resolution

Setup Outlook without an Email Account

  1. Open Control Panel
  2. Click on Mail (32-bit)
  3. Click on Show Profiles
  4. Click Add
  5. Enter a Name and Click OK
  6. Click Cancel
  7. Click OK on the window asking if you want to create a profile without an email address
  8. In the Profile window, select the new profile as the "Always use this profile" or select "Prompt for a profile to be used"
  9. Click Apply and then click OK
  10. Open Outlook 
  11. Select the Profile you created if it is not set as the default
  12. Click Next
  13. Select No on "Do you want to set up Outlook to connect to an email account?" then click Next
  14. Check the option to "Use Outlook without an email account"
  15. Click Finish

Add PST Files to Outlook

  1. Click File
  2. Click on Account Settings in the Account Settings drop down menu
  3. Click on Data Files 
  4. Click Add
  5. Navigate to the pst files 
  6. Click OK and click Close
  7. The added emails should appear in the left bar under the main Outlook folder
