Default settings for Zoom, and recommended settings for large lectures, small discussions, guest speakers, advisors and Zoom recording processing.

To improve security, prevent unauthorized disruption, and protect students during Zoom meetings, we recommend the following default settings for all faculty. Additionally, we have provided recommended settings for the following Zoom meeting types:
Default Zoom Settings
All users should log in to OSU Zoom with their OSU credentials, click on Settings in the Zoom menu on the left side of the screen and set their default Zoom settings as follows:
Meeting Tab
- Host video: ON
- Participant video: OFF
- Audio Type: Telephone and Computer Audio
- Join before host: OFF
- Only authenticated users can join meetings: ON
- Private chat: OFF
- Play sound when participants join or leave: OFF
- Co-host: ON
- Screen sharing: ON
- Who can share? Host Only
- Who can start sharing when someone else is sharing? Host Only
- Breakout room: ON
- CHECKED: Allow host to assign participants to breakout rooms when scheduling
- Waiting room: ON
- Choose which participants to place in the waiting room: Guest Participants Only
Recording Tab
- UNCHECKED: Display participants' names in the recording
Telephone Tab
- Mask phone number in the participant list: ON
Large Class Settings
- Video: Host: ON; Participants: OFF
- Audio: Both
- Meeting Options
- UNCHECK Join Before Host
- CHECK Mute Participants Upon Entry
- CHECK Enable Waiting room
- Waitlist for Guests Only should be enabled in Zoom Settings prior to creating the Zoom meeting. See Default Zoom Settings above.

Pre-Meeting Guest Speaker Setup
- The host and guest presenter should arrange a time shortly before the meeting to join Zoom. The guest will need to be allowed in to the meeting from the Zoom waiting room by the host.
- Once the guest presenter has joined the meeting, the host should set the guest presenter's role to co-host. This will allow the presenter to share their screen or presentation.
