Install Visio 2019 or Project 2019 with Office 365

Question

• How do I install Visio 2019 or Project 2019 with Office 365 installed?

Environment

• Oregon State University
• Community Network customer
• University-owned computer
• Windows 10
• Office 365 installed is 32bit or 64bit

Cause/Explanation

In many cases, you can install Office, Project, and Visio on the same computer. But, there are some combinations of Office, Project, and Visio that can't be installed together on the same computer. The two main things that determine whether Office, Project, and Visio can be installed together on the same computer are the version of the product and the installation technology used to install the product. What governs whether an installation scenario is supported are these two rules:

• You can't install two products together that have the same version but use different installation technologies.
• You can't install two products of different versions together if both products use Click-to-Run as the installation technology and those products have overlapping Office applications.

Resolution

Method 1

1. Check if installed version of Office 365 is 32-bit or 64-bit and what channel is currently selected.
   • Launch Word
   • Select File > Account
   • Note down the channel information (Current Channel, Monthly Enterprise Channel, or Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel) under the "About Word" section (see below)
     
      
   • Click the About Word button and note down if 64-bit or 32-bit (see below)
     
      
2. Copy "Visio 2019 Volume" (32 or 64 bit depending on the version) folder from \\software\software\Microsoft Visio\Visio 2019 to the user's desktop
   • NOTE: For Project, use the Project 2019 Volume folder.
3. Edit the "configuration-VisioPro2019Volume-x64.xml" file (in Notepad) based on the version of Office and channel as follows:
   • If using 64-bit office and Current Channel, change the 2nd line in the file to say:
     • <Add OfficeClientEdition="64" Channel="Current">
   • If using 64-bit office and Semi-annual Enterprise Channel, change the 2nd line in the file to say:
     • <Add OfficeClientEdition="64" Channel="broad">
   • If using 64-bit office and Monthly Enterprise Channel, change the 2nd line in the file to say:
     • <Add OfficeClientEdition="64" Channel="Monthly">
        

       Note: For 32-bit versions replace the 64 in first line of the XML file to 32 AND change the channel as listed above DO NOT change the file name from 64 to 32 for 32-bit installs, leave as is

   • Save the XML file
4. Run "install.bat" as administrator to start installation.
   1. A blank CMD window will open and close (after a few minutes) when install is complete
5. Launch Visio and/or Project to make sure installation was successful

Troubleshooting

If installation was unsuccessful:

1. Open Task Manager and check if "Microsoft Office Click-to-Run" process is still running
2. If so, restart the computer and try install again (You may also end the "Microsoft Office Click-to-Run" task in Task manager instead of restarting)
   
    

Error message: Account issue - The products we found in your account cannot be used to activate office in shared computer scenarios


 

1. If Project or Visio get the license error (see above) upon launching the program:
   1. Run Regedit (as admin)
   2. Browse to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\ClickToRun\Configuration
   3. Change the SharedComputerLicensing Value Data to 0
      
       

      Note: Setting this value to 0 will count the current Office 365 install against the user's allotted 5 device license limit

O365 Installation Method

If Visio/Project aren't installing with O365, try removing the user installed O365 and install from \\software\software\Microsoft Office Suites\Office 365. Be sure to change "confgifuration-Office365-x64.xml" to say 32 if installing the 32 bit version.

Product Unlicensed

If after getting Visio installed it prompts for activation/says product is unlicensed, please contact OSU.software@oregonstate.edu for a product key for activation.
