Overview

Canvas is Oregon State University's Learning Management System. When a DAS accommodation allows for extra time on exams and the Canvas quiz has both a time limit and availability dates set, faculty need to make appropriate adjustments for 1) time limit and 2) the availability window to address the DAS accommodation. We've provided written instructions and a link to a video demonstrating how to make the adjustments.

Watch a video on how to apply a time limit extension and also expand the availability window for DAS accommodations.

Adjusting the Time Limit

These instructions only apply to Canvas quizzes with the time limit setting enabled. To extend the Canvas quiz timer (i.e. the time limit):

  1. Navigate to the quiz in Canvas
  2. Ensure the quiz is Published
  3. Click Moderate this Quiz in the menu on the right side of the page (or bottom if the screen is small)
  4. Locate the student with a DAS time extension
  5. Click the Pencil Icon on the right side of the screen
  6. Locate the Extra time on every attempt field
  7. Enter the additional time the student should be given - this will be added to the amount of time already given
  8. Click Save

  3. Scroll to the bottom of the Details tab
  4. Locate the original Assign To box which contains the Due Date, Available From and Available Until
  5. Click the gray + Add button located beneath the original Assign To box to create a second Assign To box
  6. In the second Assign To box:
    1. Begin typing the name of the student(s) with the time extension DAS accommodation and select their name from the dynamic list when it appears
    2. Enter the adjusted Due Date, Available From and Available Until date(s) for the student(s) with the DAS accommodation
