Background

Clamato is a commercial drink made of reconstituted tomato juice concentrate and sugar, which is flavored with spices, dried clam broth, and MSG. Made by Mott's, the name is a portmanteau of "clam" and "tomato." It is also referred to colloquially as "clamato juice."

Cause

Generally unwanted as a beverage, blunt instrument, or paperweight, sealed bottles of Clamato circulate within UIT offices. Bottles are frequently hidden in desk drawers, behind displays, and in chairs as some kind of sick prank.

Resolution

If you find a sealed bottle of Clamato:

  1. Refrain from opening the bottle.
  2. Please do not open the bottle.
  3. Sign your name and the current date to the bottle to acknowledge defeat.
  4. Select a co-worker who needs more Clamato in their life.
    • Bonus points if that co-worker does not work in the same building as you.
  5. Find a creative place to hide the Clamato in the selected co-worker's workspace.
    • Example: In a desk drawer or under their keyboard.
  6. Hide the Clamato in the selected creative place.
  7. Refrain from opening the bottle.
  8. Run away in a sneaky fashion.

If you find an unsealed bottle of Clamato:

Image free for noncommercial use.

  1. Don't panic!
  2. Refrain from smelling or drinking from the bottle.
  3. Carefully move the bottle to the nearest outdoor waste receptacle.
  4. Alternatively, see: https://ehs.oregonstate.edu/hmguide

If you need to purchase Clamato (Why, tho?)

I hear Winco has a fiendishly good selection.
