Issue/Question

  • How do I install SAS?
  • How do I uninstall SAS?
  • How do I renew my SAS license?

Environment

  • Oregon State University
  • Employee or Student
  • Windows, Web Broswer (MacOS, Linux devices)
  • SAS

License Restrictions

SAS is licensed for all current OSU students and employees, and can be installed on personal devices via self-service. You do not need to request access to install SAS.

Resolution

Note: The SAS installation can take hours to complete, and may require a restart. We recommend closing all applications before you start. You will need local administrator access to your computer to complete the install.

If connecting from off campus, make sure to connect to the Campus VPN in order to access the software server.

Method 1 - Access via Web Browser

If you are using MacOS or Linux, you need to use one of these methods to access via a web browser as SAS can only be installed on Windows machines (Windows 10 and higher).

SAS OnDemand for Academics

  • Visit the SAS OnDemand for Academics page.
  • Click "Access Now". You will need to sign in with your SAS Profile. Create a new account if you don't already have one.
    • The approval for this step can take a while. SAS will send an email when the account is activated.
  • When logged in, you can access SAS Studio via your web browser.

Citrix Apps

  • Visit https://apps.oregonstate.edu and login with your ONID credentials.
  • You can access SAS only under the Apps tab or via a Campus Labs desktop under Desktops to access SAS.

License Renewal

  1. Close SAS.
  2. Under Start -> Programs -> SAS -> Utilities, open "Renew SAS Software" as an administrator (right click -> run as admin). This renewal file may also be found in C:\Program Files\SASHome\x86\. It may also be found C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\SAS. You can right-click on the application and click go to file location.
  3. Find the SAS installation data (SID) that corresponds to your version of SAS under \\software.oregonstate.edu\software\SAS\. (This is usually the most current version but not always.)
    1. Licenses are located in \\software.oregonstate.edu\software\SAS\2024 SAS Licenses
    2. Copy licenses to the local environment and direct the "Renew SAS Software" to that file when prompted for the license.
  4. Click next and verify the operating systems and SAS products.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Renew.
  7. If successful, "The setinit was successfully applied." should be displayed.
    1. If unsuccessful, a log file will be generated indicating what caused it to fail.

NOTE: If you are trying to use SAS Enterprise Guide after a renewal, it might not renew SAS Enterprise Guide with the rest of the SAS suite. A reinstall of SAS should get Enterprise Suite up with the new license.
