  • How do I enable the "Telephone" dial-in option for a live meeting?
  • Can I enable the "Computer Audio" option for a meeting that's currently running / in-progress?

Environment

  • Oregon State University
  • Faculty/Staff & Students
  • Zoom User
  • Zoom Host

Cause/Explanation

Occasionally users will schedule a Zoom meeting and when configuring the meeting options they accidentally select either "Computer Audio" OR, "Telephone"  instead of the default "BOTH" option. Often times the user/host will not realize a participant needs one of those options until AFTER the meeting has already started and people have joined. If a user selects only "Computer Audio" then their meeting would not be configured for any call-in connectors, nor would the invite include any of the call-in information. Additionally, if a user selects only "Telephone" then their meeting would not be configured for participants to use their computer microphones to connect to the audio portion of the meeting. In order to resolve the HOST can edit the LIVE meeting on the fly, without needing to reschedule or close out of the meeting and restart.

Again, there IS the ability to configure both options AFTER the meeting has already started, and people have joined. The steps for editing the LIVE meetings are outlined below.

Resolution

Method 1 - Enable "Telephone" AND "Computer Audio" ("BOTH") for a LIVE Zoom Meeting

  1. The host should have likely joined the meeting at this point. They can continue to stay in the meeting.
  2. Open a browser tab and login at zoom.oregonstate.edu.
  3. Select Meetings from the left side of the screen.
  4. They should default to the "Upcoming Meetings" tab, with a list of their current (and future) meeting listed.
  5. Click the title of the LIVE meeting.
  6. Select the "Edit this meeting" button from the lower right corner of the page.
  7. Locate the Audio section, and change the selection (radio button) to "BOTH"
  8. Click Save located at the bottom of the page.
  9. The page will refresh to the overview of the meeting, select "Copy the invitation" link
  10. Within the pop-up window, it will show the available dial-in phone number(s) and the meeting ID/conference ID to use.
  11. At this point, the LIVE meeting will now have the ability for people to call into the meeting using a telephone or computer audio.
