Known Issue: "Microsoft Exchange Administrator has Made a Change That Requires You Quit and Restart Outlook"

Issue/Question

A computer is displaying the pop up message: "Microsoft Exchange Administrator has Made a Change That Requires You Quit and Restart Outlook" which allows no work to be done and Outlook to be restarted.

Cause

This issue most often occurs when the computer wakes up from sleep or is taken off a docking station, but may also happen at other times. Some changes were made in January 2017 at the load balancers in front of the Exchange servers. This has resolved the error for most customers. Since then, for most customers seeing this issue it is likely caused by an underlying connectivity problem.

Resolution

Technicians

  1. If a docking station is used, confirm that the dock is registered for use on the wired network and is currently connected to the wired network. To confirm the wired network is being used, try temporarily disabling wireless.
  2. If wireless connectivity is used primarily, the Service Desk can check for connectivity or coverage problems in Airwave, a wireless monitoring tool.
  3. Confirm that the VPN is not being used while on campus.
