Connecting Devices to ResNet

Explanation:

It is possible to connect your game consoles and Network Media Players to the Residential Network to play online games or stream shows. However, each of these devices has a hardware address that must be registered with ResNet for the device to have access to the network.

You will need to provide your own Ethernet cable, which can be purchased at the OSU Beaver Store.
(Please note that a phone cable will not work for the ResNet network See pictures of the two types of cables)

Requirements:

  • A device capable of connecting to the internet via an ethernet port
  • The MAC address of the device
  • An ethernet cable

Steps:

  1. Go to to https://app.uhds.oregonstate.edu/resdesk/
  2. Click on 'Register a Device' under 'Self-Service' to the left
  3. Find your MAC address for the device
  4. Put in the MAC address and Computer Name(such as:xbox, ps4, laptop, tacos), then register the device.
  5. Reboot your device and test the connection
    1. Some devices, primarily Xbox', may need to be unplugged for several hours during the reboot process
