Spam Email Filtering - Outlook for Windows

Issue/Question

  • How do I use SpamAssassin tags to filter unwanted email in Outlook 2016 for Windows?

Environment

  • Oregon State University
  • Employee, Student or Associate
  • Exchange Email
  • Outlook 2016 for Windows

Resolution

  • In Outlook, Select Rules, Manage Rules & Alerts 
  • Select New Rule
  • Under "Start from a blank rule" select "Apply rule on messages I receive" and click Next
  • Under Step 1, check the box for "with specific words in the Message header" 
  • Under Step 2, click the "specific words" link
  • Enter the following as its shown: X-Spam-Flag: YES 
  • Click Add, OK
  • Click Next 
  • Under Step 1, check the box for "move it to the specified folder"
  • Under Step 2, click the "specified" link and select a folder such as the Junk E-mail folder 
  • Click OK
  • Click Finish
  • Click OK in the Rules and Alerts window

New messages with the spam flag set will now be moved automatically to your Junk folder.
