Duo - How to Request Opt-out

Caution: Opting out of Duo means that your account will no longer be protected by two-factor authentication. Some positions and services at OSU require Duo opt-in.

Also: removing the Duo app from your phone does not turn off Duo for your account. If you remove the app while you are opted in to Duo, you will not be able to login.

Note: In the future, Duo may be required for everyone at OSU.

Alternatives to opting out:

  • If you often forget your cell phone, enroll another device such as a tablet in Duo.
  • Purchase a hardware token for Duo at the OSU Beaver Store or ask your department if they will provide one.
  • Enable the 12 hour "remember me" feature to avoid having to Duo auth again in the same day.
  • If your cell phone does not have good wifi or cell coverage, use a passcode.

If you still need to opt out of duo, follow these steps:

  1. Verify your identity with the Service Desk. Either:
    • Visit the Service Desk in-person in Milne Computer Center room 201 and show your OSU ID or other government-issued ID (e.g. driver's license).
    • Or: Call the Service Desk at 541-737-8787 and we will set up a video chat so you can show your ID.
  2. From there the Service Desk will contact Identity and Access Management (IAM) to request that Duo be removed from your account.
  3. The Service Desk will notify you once Duo has been removed from your account.
  4. Verify the opt-out process worked by trying to sign into your ONID account.
