Exchange Online - project status

What is Exchange online?

Exchange Online is the new, cloud-hosted version of OSU’s employee email system.

Why are we doing it?

OSU's current employee email system (Exhange) is older version that needs to be upgraded. Moving our email into the cloud

(Exchange Online) provides us with a significant number of benefits to our current system.

Exchange is the email version that most of our staff and more than 80% of our faculty already have.

Employees who use Outlook to email and calendar will continue to have the same look and feel.

Employees can still use their preferred email client (other than Outlook) with Exchange Online.

What are its benefits?

More Reliable, More Places, More Devices

  • 100 GB mailbox with unlimited online archives
  • Vastly improved web and mobile experience
  • More secure
  • Improved Spam and Phishing protection

When is it happening?

The Exchange Online project is still in the planning phase. No timeline for migration has been set. As we firm up our plans, information will be provided to campus about the project. We expect to provide this information near the end of fall term.

For additional information about the project, please see the IS Project Management website.
