Duo - Manage Your Devices

Issue/Question

  • How do I add/change/remove Duo devices associated with my account?

Environment

  • Oregon State
  • Employee, Student or Associate
  • ONID Account
  • Duo-enrolled

Resolution

You may have multiple devices registered for your Duo two-step login, including smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, and one hardware token.  Over time, you may need to change your devices when:

  • You change your smartphone's phone number
  • You must replace your hardware token (lost, damaged, dead battery)
  • You would like to add or remove a tablet or smartwatch (note: some smartwatches can be treated as phones)

Before you begin:

  • Try to make changes to your devices during open hours of the IS Service Desk: if something doesn't go as expected, the Service Desk can help you resolve problems quickly.
  • It's best to add new devices before removing an existing device because you may need to complete a Duo authentication to add the new device. If you're changing your mobile phone number, keep your old phone active for Duo until you have the new phone/phone# working with Duo. Be sure to test the new device before removing the existing device.

Replace a hardware token

Add a hardware token (note: you can only have one hardware token active for your Duo account)

  1. Go to duo.oregonstate.edu. Scroll down and click the button labeled "Manage your Duo devices."
  2. Select "I want to add a hardware token."
  3. If you already have a hardware token you will not be able to add another.

Add, remove or manage devices

  1. From this screen, you can add or remove a device (phone, tablet, hardware token, etc).  Step-by-step details for each action are given below.
  2. We recommend that you choose to have Duo automatically send a push to a mobile device as this further improves security for your Duo-protected account.
  3. This screen will also let you remove a hardware token.
  4. Please note: you will not be able to remove the last Duo device associated with your account.
