Duo - Replacing a Hardware Token

Issue/Question

  • How do I remove a Duo hardware token? (In the event of a broken or lost token.)

Environment

  • Oregon State University
  • Employee, Student or Associate
  • ONID Account
  • Duo-enrolled

Explanation

If your Duo hardware token is lost, it is a good idea to remove it from your account for security reasons.

If your Duo token is damaged, you can get a new one, and then follow the instructions below to register it in place of the damaged token. Each user can only have one hardware token registered to their account.

Resolution

Duo hardware tokens can be purchased at the OSU Beaver Store or (if you are eligible for one) obtained from your department or from the IS Service Desk in Milne Computer Center room 201.

Steps

  1. Visit http://duo.oregonstate.edu
  2. Select "Manage your Duo devices"
  3. Login to your ONID account
    • If you have another Duo device such as a smartphone or tablet, use it to Duo authenticate
    • If you don't have another Duo device, you will need a temporary bypass code from your department IT or the IS Service Desk
  4. Select "I need to replace my hardware token"
  5. Enter the serial number for the new hardware token
  6. Press the button on the new hardware token and enter the passcode on screen
  7. Click on "Register My Hardware Token"

The old token will be removed from your account, and the new one will now be active.

For assistance, contact the IS Service Desk.
