Banner - Known Issue: "Your session has expired"

Issue

  • When trying to login to Banner I get the message "Your session has expired. Click Reload to access login page."

Environment

  • Oregon State University
  • Employee

Cause

This error message can be displayed for a number of reasons, including:

  • Access not granted to Banner
  • Too many open sessions
  • 4-hour inactivity timeout
  • Browser cookie issues

Resolution

Obtain or Extend Banner Access

If you are a student or temporary worker and your access has expired, your department will need to request an extension of your Banner access by contacting Banner Access .

If you have not yet been granted Banner access, or your access has been terminated because you switched jobs, your department will need to request Banner access for you. Note that you will need to complete Banner training before access will be granted. See https://beav.es/banneraccess for the form and instructions.

Too Many Open Sessions

When exiting Banner 9, make sure you sign out before closing your browser. If you just "X" out of the browser, you will leave orphan processes that may prevent you from starting another Banner session.

4-Hour Inactivity Timeout

If your session was inactive for 4 hours, you will see the "session has expired" message. Try connecting to Banner again.

Browser Cookie Issues

Find instructions here to clear your browser cache and cookies, then attempt to reconnect to Banner.
