Office 365 - Subscription is expired, my office 365 license doesn't work, I can't install Office apps

Issue

  • When trying to download the Office apps via Office 365, I get the message "You currently have not been assigned an office license that includes the Office desktop apps."
  • Office 365 says my "subscription is expiring".
  • I can't install Office apps.

Explanation

In order to download, install and use the full Microsoft Office suite through Office 365, you need to have the ProPlus license.

Only current OSU students and employees are eligible for ProPlus.

Resolution

Confirm Office 365 ProPlus Eligibility

  1. First, make sure you are signed into Office 365 correctly with your OSU username@oregonstate.edu account:
    1. In Word (for exampls), click on "Sign in" in the upper right 
    2. Enter your username as username@oregonstate.edu and click Next
  2. Check your Office 365 license:
    1. Visit https://portal.office.com/account/#installs
    2. If prompted, login as: username@oregonstate.edu
    3. If you see the message "You currently have not been assigned an office license that includes the Office desktop apps" this means that you are not eligible for Office 365 ProPlus. 
    4. If you see "Office" listed with an "Install Office" button, you are eligible for Office 365 ProPlus. 
  3. Review eligibility requirements:
    • Students: you must be registered for at least one course in the current term or a future term in order to install Office apps from Office 365.
      • If you just registered for classes today, please wait until the following day to try installing Office apps.
      • If you are not registered for classes, you need to do so in order to be eligible for Office 365 ProPlus.
    • Employees: you must have a currently active job at OSU in order to install Office apps from Office 365.
      • If you are unsure whether you have an active job at OSU, please contact your business center.
    • Associates: associates are not eligible for Office Pro Plus licensing and cannot install Office apps from Office 365.
    • Alumni: Alumni are NOT eligible for Office Pro Plus licensing and cannot install Office apps from Office 365.
    • Sponsored Users/accounts: NOT eligible for Office Pro Plus licensing and cannot install Office apps from Office 365.
  4. If you believe you should be eligible for Office 365 but are unable to install the Office apps, please contact the IS Service Desk.
