How to locate a Kaltura CaptureSpace recording

  • Where on my hard drive is my Kaltura CaptureSpace recording?

  • Windows
  • MacOS

Kaltura CaptureSpace has been retired. While you can still make recordings with the software, these recordings cannot be uploaded to Kaltura. If a user has accidentally used this software for a recording, the user must locate the original video recording on their hard drive so that it can then be uploaded manually.

After locating and uploading videos from Kaltura CaptureSpace, we recommend that users uninstall CaptureSpace and install the new Kaltura Capture tool.

Locate the 'Save' Folder for Kaltura Recordings

  1. Open the Kaltura CaptureSpace Desktop Recorder software
  2. Click the Settings tab
  3. The location of the saved files will be listed in the Local Media Files Storage field ("Local File Storage Location" on MacOS)Kaltura CaptureSpace Desktop Recorder Settings Tab Screenshot
    • Navigate to the location in Windows Explorer or Finder in MacOS

Locate the Video File

Kaltura video folder and file names are not descriptive. To locate a specific video, you will need to rely on the Date Modified information to identify videos based on the date the file was created.

  1. Once in the 'Save' folder for Kaltura recordings, click on the Date modified field header to sort by date
  2. Locate and open the folder with the date and time of the desired recording
  3. Each recording folder should contain two images files (JPG) and one media file (MP4). Select the MP4 file and save a copy of the file to an easy-to-find location on your computer.
  4. Upload the copied MP4 file to My Media in Canvas or to MediaSpace
