ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Desktop - Install/Licensing

Available for OSU faculty, staff and students on institutional or personally-owned devices or computers for use in education and non-commercial research.

Resolution

If connecting from off campus, make sure to connect to the Campus VPN in order to access the software server.

Before proceeding, make sure .NET Runtime 6.0.5 or above is installed!  The package for ArcGIS Pro will fail to create the installer if you proceed without it!

ArcGIS Pro Named User License

  1. Open Windows File Explorer and enter \\software.oregonstate.edu into the address bar.
  2. Enter your username as onid\username and ONID password if prompted. 
  3. Navigate to  Software -> ArcGIS -> ArcGIS_Pro. 
  4. Find the folder for the desired version and copy ArcGIS_Pro_[VERSION].exe to the desktop.
    1. Version will change will each new version of ArcGIS, there should only be one ArcGIS_Pro.exe in the folder. There's also update patches and an optional help installer for offline machines.
  5. Right click on ArcGIS_Pro_[VERSION].exe and select "Run as Administrator".
  6. Once installed, open ArcGIS Pro. This will prompt to sign in.
  7. Select "Your AcrGIS organization's URL" and enter "OSUGISci" in the login URL field.
  8. Click the "Oregon State University" and sign in with ONID username and password.
  9. Once signed in, click on the settings button in the bottom left of the screen -> about -> update.
    1. Alternatively, there is a .msp patch available in the software folder for manual updating (useful for non-networked machines).​​

ArcGIS Pro Single User License

These steps should only be used if the machine that will be running ArcGIS Pro will not have Internet access.

  1. Open Windows File Explorer and enter \\software.oregonstate.edu into the address bar.
  2. Enter your username as onid\username and ONID password if prompted. 
  3. Navigate to  Software -> ArcGIS -> ArcGIS_Pro.
  4. Find the folder for the desired version and copy ArcGIS_Pro_[VERSION].exe to the desktop.
    1. Version will change will each new version of ArcGIS, there should only be one ArcGIS_Pro.exe in the folder. There's also update patches and an optional help installer for offline machines.
  5. Right click on ArcGIS_Pro_[VERSION].exe and select "Run as Administrator".
  6. Once installed, on the sign page, click "Configure your licensing options".
  7. In the license type dropdown, select "Single Use License"
  8. Click "Authorize".
  9. Select "I have received an authorization file and am now ready to finish the authorization process" and click browse -> select the .prvc file copied earlier.
  10. Leave the radio button on "Authorize with Esri now using the Internet" and click next.
  11. Leave the boxes as is and click next.
  12. Select from the dropdowns to best describe the use case of this software.
  13. Click next on the page with the authorization number.
  14. Leave the radio button selected on "I have authorization number(s) to authorize one of more extensions" and click next.
  15. After the authorization process is done, click "Finish".

ArcGIS 10.X.X (ArcGIS Desktop)

  1. Press the "Start" or "Windows" button on your device and in the search bar type in: \\software.oregonstate.edu
  2. Enter your username as onid\username and ONID password if prompted. 
  3. Navigate to  Software -> ArcGIS -> ArcGIS_Desktop.
  4. Copy ArcGIS Desktop [VERSION].exe and ArcGIS Desktop Single User.prvc to the desktop.
    1. Version will change will each new version of ArcGIS, there should only be one .exe in the folder. There's also an optional help installer for offline machines.
  5. Right click on ArcGIS Desktop [VERSION].exe and select "Run as Administrator".
  6. Once installation finishes, ArcGIS Administrator should open.
    NOTE: This can be opened at a later time as well - make sure to run it as an aministrator.
  7. Under the desktop folder in the list, make sure "Advanced (ArcInfo) Single Use" is select, and click "Authorize Now".
  8. Select "I have received an authorization file and am now ready to finish the authorization process" and click "Browse".
  9. Select the ArcGIS Desktop License.prvc copied from step 2.
  10. Click "Next".
  11. Make sure "Authorize with Esri now using the Internet" is select and click next.
  12. Leave the authorization information boxes as is and click next.
  13. Select the following organization, industry, and self categories that best describe the use case and click next.
  14. An authorization number should autofill, leave it as is and hit next.
  15. Make sure the "I have authorization number(s) to authorize one or more extensions" is selected and click next.
  16. Click next.
  17. This will finish the authorization process and the ArcGIS products are good to open.

NOTE: This license file expires once a year, usually at the end of August, and will need to be renewed once per year.

 

Uninstall

To uninstall ArcGIS, remove it from Programs and Features.
