Issue/Question
- What kind of computer should I get for my schoolwork at OSU?
Environment
- Oregon State University
- Student, New Student
Resolution
These recommendations are adapted from the College of Engineering laptop guidelines which you can read here: https://it.engineering.oregonstate.edu/laptop-purchasing-guidelines
We recommend that students purchase a laptop with sufficient specifications to last for their full 4 years at OSU. While an older or less expensive laptop might work, it may not be able to keep up with changing software demands over time.
Most software that students will need for coursework will be provided for free or at a discounted price through university software licensing. All current students receive a free license to Microsoft Office 365 to install on personal devices.
