Online Services - org.springframework.jbdc Error

Issue/Question

• I cannot use Online Services links.  I get the error "org.sprinframework.jdbc.CannotGetJdbcConnectionException: Could not get JDBC Connection; nested exception is java.sql.SQLRecoverableException: Listener refused the connection with the following error: ORA-12514, TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor"

Environment

• Oregon State University
• OSU Online Services
• MyOregonState
• Student or Employee

Cause/Explanation

Online Services is unable to communicate with the Banner PROD database.  This can happen due to the following:

• Weekly backups.  The Banner PROD database is unavailable every week from 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Friday night until backups complete--typically 2-4 hours.
• Scheduled maintenance.  This error may be seen during scheduled database maintenance.
• Database outage

Resolution

Try Again Later

• If the error was seen early Saturday morning before 4:00am (Pacific Time), it is likely due to weekly database backups.  Retry after backup window.
• If the error is seen during scheduled administrative database or Banner maintenance, retry after maintenance window ends.
