Explanation
Oregon State University provides a lifetime email forwarding address for alumni. The format of this e-mail address is "username@lifetime.oregonstate.edu", where you choose your own username. Emails sent to this account will be automatically forwarded to another account of your choice. ONID accounts are NOT lifetime addresses and they do NOT forward mail to your Lifetime Email address.
OSU does not provide permanent e-mail forwarding for students who leave without graduating.
Lifeteime addresses are only for student alumni, not for Employees. Unless you are eligible for a retiree account OSU does not provide a Lifetime E-mail address or permanent e-mail forwarding for Non-Emeritus Faculty or Staff who leave the University.
Resolution
Current or Recently-Graduated Students
You need to have an active ONID account to follow these steps. If you do not have an active ONID account anymore, follow the steps in the next section of this document.
- Go to the My.oregonstate.edu.
- Go to the Resources tab in Student Dashboard.
- Search for Lifetime Email Address Update.
- Enter your desired Lifetime E-mail Address and the destination e-mail Address you would like messages forwarded to.
- Click the “Update E-mail Address(es)” button and you are finished!
Students Who Graduated After 1992 But No Longer Have ONID
- Go to https://prodapps.isadm.oregonstate.edu/ords/prod/twbkwbis.P_WWWLogin
- Enter your OSU ID
- For GAP, enter your last ONID password.
- Select Lifetime Email Address Update.
- Enter your desired Lifetime E-mail Address and the destination e-mail Address you would like messages forwarded to.
- Click the “Update E-mail Address(es)” button and you are finished!
Students Who Graduated Before 1992
If you graduated before 1992 you will need to fill out the Lifetime E-mail Information Request form to set up your Lifetime E-mail forwarding account.
Known Issue with Gmail
If you point your lifetime address to a personal Gmail mailbox, and then send a test message from that Gmail mailbox to your lifetime address, Gmail will see the message as a duplicate and will not deliver it. To test that your lifetime address is forwarding correctly, please ask another person to send you a test message.
