Guide: Accounts & Technologies for New Students

The following guide outlines some of the services provided by University Information Technology to OSU students. 

Accounts & Software

  • ONID account. The ONID account is the primary account used by both students and employees to access most OSU services. You will need to activate your ONID account before you can use it.
  • Duo Two-Step Login. Once you have setup your ONID account, you will need to sign up for Duo two-step login to secure your account.
  • Email. Access your OSU email via the web or setup your devices.
  • Software. Many software titles are available remotely via Citrix Apps or the Virtual Lab. Students can install some software on personal devices for free or with a licensing fee; see the site license software page. Students can also install Microsoft Office for free via Office365.

Technical Support

  • Service Desk. The Service Desk provides technical support to the OSU community via phone, web, email and by appointment in Milne Computer Center.

Services

  • Learn@OregonState
  • Box. Box is unlimited cloud storage and collaboration for all OSU students and employees.
  • G Suite. ONID email for students is accessed via G Suite
  • Office 365. Office365 allows students and employees to download and install up to 5 free copies of Microsoft Office on personal devices and to collaborate online using native Microsoft Office documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote).
  • Zoom. Zoom is our video-conferencing platform used for remote course delivery, advising appointments, and more.
  • OSU Mobile App. Check your grades, find places to eat and catch the bus with the OSU Mobile app.
  • MyOregonState. MyOregonState provides course registration and degree progress tracking tools, the ability to manage your personal information, and access to your student records.
  • Campus Labs. Several campus labs provide access to software for students. For remote access, see Citrix Apps or the Virtual Lab.
