FileZilla - Duo Login to Unix/Linux Servers

• How do I login to ONID Shell or Engineering servers with FileZilla and Duo?

Environment

• Oregon State University
• Engineering or ONID account

Resolution

Since we have enabled two-step login with Duo for connections to ONID Shell and ENGR servers, using FTP software such as FileZilla must be configured in a specific way to allow the user to authenticate.

1. In FileZilla, select the File menu
2. Select Site Manager
3. Select an existing site or select New Site to create a new connection
4. Enter the following information in the General tab:
   • Protocol: SFTP
   • Host: enter the server name, for example:
     • shell.onid.oregonstate.edu
     • access.engr.oregonstate.edu
   • Logon Type: Interactive
   • User: your username
5. Select the Transfer Settings tab
   1. Select "Limit number of simultaneous connections"
   2. Set simultaneous connections to: 1
6. Click Connect
   • In the first password box, enter your ONID password
   • In the second password box, type a 1 for Duo push or enter a passcode from your Duo device
7. You can now use FileZilla to transfer files to and from the shell server.
