Library - EZProxy issue with Chrome

Issue/Question

  • Why is EZProxy prompting me to login again?
  • When accessing library journals remotely, why am I being asked to login repeatedly?

Environment

  • Oregon State University
  • Library
  • Remote access to library databases and online journals

Explanation

Chrome browser changes that roll out on 2/4/2020 are likely to cause some minor disruptions for EZProxy logins. EZProxy is the service that allows authenticated users to access library databases and online journals remotely. The OSU Library ETS team are working to resolve this issue, but do not currently have a solution.

What does this mean for Library users?

  1. Users that are already logged in to an OSU service via ONID SSO (login.oregonstate.edu) won't be automatically logged into EZProxy. They will still be able to log in to get access to online content, but they will have to log in every time they start a new browser session and start accessing proxied content.
  2. If  a user’s account is Duo-enabled this might require another Duo login.
  3. We are not exactly sure how this will affect 1Search, but we expect it may cause problems with linking out to full text or to ILL requests.

Resolution

Use a different web browser, such as Firefox, Safari, or Edge.
