Issue/Question
- How do I integrate Box in Microsoft Teams?
Environment
- Oregon State University
- MS Teams
- Box
Explanation
We do not currently have the Box app enabled in Teams.
However, it is possible to add a Box folder to a Team or private channel as a cloud storage option.
As an alternative, use SharePoint Online to store files for a team. Each Team has a SharePoint Online site. When files are shared within a Team chat, they are automatically stored in the SharePoint site for that team. For details, see: Microsoft 365 - Introduction to OneDrive, Teams and SharePoint
Resolution
Method 1: Use SharePoint Online
Teams is integrated with SharePoint by default. Files uploaded to a team chat are automatically stored in the team's SharePoint site.
To access files for a Team, select the "Files" tab. From the Files menu:
- Select "New" to create a new folder.
- Select "Upload" to upload files.
- Select "Open in SharePoint" to view files in the SharePoint site.
- Note: if the SharePoint option is not displayed, select the ellipsis first.
Method 2: Add Box Folder as Cloud Storage
Note: This method has the limitation that subfolders will not be displayed in Teams - each folder has to be added individually.
- In a Team, select the "Files" tab
- Select "+ Add Cloud storage"
- Select Box
- On the Login screen:
- select "Use Single Sign On (SSO)"
- Enter your username@oregonstate.edu
- Click "Authorize"
- Enter your username and password on the Oregon State University login screen
- Click "Grant access to Box"
- Select a Box folder and click "Add folder"
To remove a folder added in this way:
- Right-click on the folder and select "Delete"
- Select "Confirm"
- Note that this does not delete the folder in Box
