Zoom - Changing Recording Layout

Body

Zoom is Oregon State University's web collaboration and online meeting platform. It is available to all OSU students, faculty, and staff at http://zoom.oregonstate.edu/. It includes functionality to record your presentation or lecture. That recording can be made in a number of different layouts.

Issue/Question

  • How do I change the layout of the recordings in Zoom?

Environment

  • Oregon State University
  • Employees and Students
  • Zoom

Explanation

By default, Zoom meetings are recording to the cloud in the "Record active speaker with shared screen" option.

Note: The layout of a Zoom meeting cannot be changed after the recording has been made. You must change your layout settings prior to the start of the meeting in order to produce a recording with a different layout.

To view or change your recording layout settings in Zoom:

  • Navigate to your account in Zoom
  • Select PERSONAL > Settings > Recordings

Layout options for Zoom cloud recordings

These options include:

  • Record gallery view with shared screen
  • Record active speaker, gallery view and shared screen separately
  • Record an audio only file
  • Save chat messages from meeting / webinar

You can select multiple different recording options.

Each recording option will produce a separate recording file.

Cloud recordings in Zoom are automatically transferred into your Kaltura account.

In Kaltura, multiple recordings of the same meeting are brought together into a single interactive user experience similar to those produced by Kaltura Capture.

Consult the following tutorial for a video demonstrating these functions.
