Body
Issue/Question
- I can't change my ONID password.
- When I try to change my password, I get the error: "No matching identity found. Please try again."
Environment
- Oregon State University
- ONID account
Cause
To change a forgotten ONID password, you first need to enter your OSU ID, birth date, first name, and last name. This information needs to exactly match the information in OSU's records. If any part does not match, you will see the "No matching identity" error.
If you are having an issue with the password reset PIN instead, please see: ONID - I Didn't Receive an ONID Password Reset PIN
Resolution
Make sure you are entering your information correctly.
Please note the following possible issues:
- The OSU ID Number is 9 characters long, numeric only, with no dashes and no spaces.
- In the "First Name" field, enter your given name.
- In the "Last Name" field, enter your surname or family name.
- In some cultures, first name and last name are reversed.
- If you have only one name, enter it in the "Last Name" field and enter a single period for the First Name: "."
- Some cultures do not use last names, but you may have provided one to OSU on a job application form. If so, you will need to enter it in the password change form.
- Some last names can be formatted with or without a space (e.g. "Mc Crary" versus "McCrary"); the ONID password reset process will generally match on either.
- "Birth date" in ONID password reset is in MM/DD/YYYY (month/day/year) format. Make sure that you did not enter it as day/month/year by mistake.
If you are sure you are entering your information correctly, it is possible that your information is wrong in OSU's systems. You will need to confirm your information by contacting one of the groups below:
- Students: Contact the Office of the Registrar to confirm that your information in Banner is correct.
- Employees: Contact the person in your department who coordinates hiring, or contact your department's business center.
- Associates and Sponsored Accounts: Contact the organization that told you about your ONID account / OSU ID number. If you are not sure who to contact, contact the ID Center.
Please note that any changes to information such as date of birth or name will not be updated in your ONID account right away. ONID pulls this information from Banner once per day. After confirming that your Banner information has been corrected, please wait until the next day to attempt resetting your ONID password.
