Prior to using the information below, instructors should connect their Qualtrics account with their Canvas account using instructions provided for using Qualtrics in Canvas.
Survey Setup Options
Please note that viewing survey results in Canvas for any of the Qualtrics Submission Types is controlled by the additional options listed at the bottom of this article.
Qualtrics Submission Types
Allow multiple submissions
This setting allows faculty to collect multiple responses from each student in a single Qualtrics survey.
- This will override Canvas assignment submission limit.
- Student will be presented with a new, blank survey for each response.
- Each survey response will be a separate Canvas submission.
- If the Qualtrics survey is configured to calculate a score, the student will see the Qualtrics score presented as the Canvas grade for the most recent submission.*
- Faculty will be able to toggle between a student's Canvas submissions in SpeedGrader.**
Allow submission update
This setting allows faculty to collect a single response from students in a single Qualtrics survey. Students are able to adjust their responses as long as the survey remains open.
- This will allow a single survey response per user.
- Students will be able to see and edit their initial response to the survey.
- The survey response will be a single Canvas submission.
- If the Qualtrics survey is configured to calculate a score and an appropriate Survey Grading Method is selected, the student will see the Qualtrics score presented as the Canvas grade for the most recent survey response update.*
- No record will be available in Canvas for survey response updates made by students. Only the current state of the survey will be available.**
- Faculty will not be notified through Canvas if a student updates their survey response.
Limit to one submission
This setting allows faculty to collect a single response from students in a single Qualtrics survey.
- This will allow a single survey response per user.
- Students will only be able to submit the survey once, and cannot edit their initial response to the survey.
- The survey response will be a single Canvas submission.
- If the Qualtrics survey is configured to calculate a score and an appropriate Survey Grading Method is selected, the student will see the Qualtrics score presented as the Canvas grade.*
Survey Grading Method
With Canvas Submission
Selecting the "With Canvas Submission" grading method will allow faculty to select one of the following three grading options.
Grade is not registered
- Qualtrics responses can be viewed in Canvas SpeedGrader.
- Even if scoring is enabled on the Qualtrics survey, no score will be passed to Canvas.
- If a grade is desired in Canvas, faculty will need to manually enter grades.
Grade is Canvas assignment maximum score
Grade is the percentage of the Qualtrics score
- The Qualtrics survey must be configured to calculate a score in Qualtrics.
- The Qualtrics survey's 'total possible score' will need to be entered into the "Fill in the maximum score of the Qualtrics survey".
- The percentage of the Qualtrics survey score earned by each respondent is used to calculate the Canvas grade for the assignment.
No Canvas Submission
Selecting the "No Canvas Submission" grading method is the best option for faculty to deploy anonymous surveys in Canvas. Users will still access the survey through Canvas, but no survey responses or scores will be available for display in Canvas.
Grade is not registered
- Qualtrics responses will not appear in SpeedGrader, and Qualtrics will not push a grade to Canvas
