Qualtrics: Use Qualtrics in Canvas

The Qualtrics integration in Canvas allows instructors to deploy Qualtrics surveys as assignments within their Canvas courses. Before instructors can deploy surveys in Canvas, their Qualtrics account must be connected to their Canvas account. Once connected, faculty can add Qualtrics surveys to their Canvas account, then deploy these surveys as Canvas assignments.

Instructors should ensure they have logged into OSU Qualtrics at least once, to provision their Qualtrics account, before following the steps below.

Connect Qualtrics to Canvas (one-time setup)

To connect your Qualtrics account to your Canvas account, please use the following steps. Users must have previously logged in to Qualtrics to create their Qualtrics account before performing these steps.

WARNING: Steps 6 and 7 are critical steps to connect to your OSU Qualtrics account.

  1. Log in to Canvas
  2. Click on Account in the top left corner of Canvas
  3. Click Qualtrics in the flyout menu
  4. Click the blue Click here to authorize button
  5. Select Qualtrics for Oregon State when prompted for the Qualtrics domain
  6. Select the Sign in with SSO option located at the bottom of the Qualtrics login pop-out window
  7. Type oregonstate when prompted for your company's Organization ID
  8. Enter your ONID credentials when the OSU login pop-out window appears
  9. Click Approve to allow the Qualtrics LTI for Canvas Prod access to the Qualtrics platform

This is generally a one-time action for most users. However, you can disconnect your Qualtrics account from your Canvas account by selecting "Log me out from Qualtrics" from the Menu list in the top right corner of the Qualtrics window in Canvas.

If you did not select Save and enable during step 8, you will need to toggle the Enable survey for Canvas status on the main Qualtrics page before you can use the survey for Canvas assignments. Also note that a survey must be active in Qualtrics before students can take the survey in or out of Canvas. You can view the status of a Qualtrics survey from the main Qualtrics page in Canvas as well as in Qualtrics.

Collaborators in Qualtrics can add surveys to Canvas if they are given all collaboration permissions in Qualtrics, with the exception of the Copy permission.
