Issue/Question

  • Why are certain features missing from my computer?
  • Why aren't certain software applications running properly?

Environment

  • Oregon State University
  • Windows, macOS

Resolution

Windows

  1. On your computer, click Start on the bottom left and type check for updates.
  2. Settings will open and display a Windows Update page. This page will show you the date your computer was last updated.
  3. You will be presented with two options:
    1. Check For Updates will check the computer to see if there are any local updates available. Clicking on this button will automatically begin a local search for updates.
    2. Check For Online Updates will check Microsoft's Servers for any more updates the local check missed.
  4. Once the updates are finished downloading and installing your computer will either restart automatically or it will prompt a manual restart. After the restart, repeat the process to be sure no updates were missed.
