Outlook on the Web - Mark Email as "Not Junk"

Issue/Question

  • How do I mark an email as "not junk" in Outlook on the web?
  • How can I move a message out of the junk mail folder?

Environment

  • Oregon State University
  • Exchange Online
  • Outlook on the Web

Cause/Explanation

OSU's junk mail filters help reduce the amount of junk mail that appears in your inbox. This can result in some false positives, with valid email ending up in the junk mail folder.

Resolution

To mark a message as not junk:

  1. Log into Outlook on the Web
  2. Select the Junk Email folder
  3. Select the message you want to move to the Inbox
  4. Select "It's not junk"
  5. If you want to help Microsoft with their junk mail processing, select the option to Report. This is recommended.

Marking a message as "not junk" also adds the sender email to the "Safe Senders" list.

To view or update the Safe Senders list:

  1. In Outlook on the Web, select the Settings gear in the upper-right
  2. Select View All Outlook Settings -> Mail -> Junk Email
  3. Adjust blocked or safe senders as needed
  4. Scroll down and click Save when finished
