Tableau - Updating Tableau Desktop - Windows and MacOS

Issue/Question

  • How do I update Tableau?
  • What should I do if I have been told to update my version of Tableau?
  • Tableau is not working for me and I want to make sure it is not an issue with the version I am using.

Environment

  • Oregon State University
  • Tableau

Explanation

Caution: Beginning August 10, 2021, Tableau is changing how it certifies versions of Tableau Desktop running on MacOS. For those using Tableau on MacOS, please make sure you are running version 2020.3.9 or later.

Resolution

From Tableau Desktop

To update Tableau:

  1. Start Tableau

  2. Select “Help” in the top bar menu

  3. Select “Check for Product Updates…” to update to the latest version of Tableau.

Note: To see which version of Tableau you are running select "About Tableau" in the Help menu. This will bring up a pop-up window with the version of Tableau you are currently running.

From the Tableau Website

Note: You have to create or have  an account on the Tableau website to download a license version.

  1. Download the version of Tableau you want to update to from: https://www.tableau.com/support/releases
  2. Run the install file to update Tableau
  3. Once the new version of Tableau finishes installing uninstall the old version of Tableau
