CN - MacOS Catalina and Known Issues

  • Is macOS Catalina recommended for Community Network computers?

Environment

  • Community Network-supported computer

Explanation

Catalina was released on October 4, 2019. It is currently not recommended for Community Network-managed systems as it has not been determined to be compatible with all university services. However, the Service Desk will support newly purchased computers that ship with the Catalina OS already installed.

Known Issues with macOS Catalina:

  • VPN: To connect to the OSU VPN, use the built-in macOS VPN.
  • 32-bit applications are not supported.
  • Java is not supported in any browser.
  • The Zoom Outlook plug-in does not work with Catalina. 
  • May cause some slowness.

  • Microsoft Office 2019 - Including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, OneNote, OneDrive
  • Box apps
  • Adobe Acrobat Pro DC - Continuous Release
  • Adobe Creative Cloud apps
  • Google Chrome
  • Firefox ESR
  • Skype for Business
  • VLC
  • ESET Antivirus
  • Jamf Pro agent for self-service package installs
  • Ricoh printer drivers
