Kaltura: How to use Kaltura Search to locate media

Kaltura is Oregon State University's video platform. MediaSpace, Kaltura's front end portal, includes powerful search functionality.

Issue/Question

  • How do I find a video in MediaSpace?
  • Why can't I find a video in MediaSpace?

Environment

  • Oregon State
    • MediaSpace

Resolution

Note: The MediaSpace search will only return results of videos that are public. Private videos, as well as videos that are Unlisted, will not turn up in search results.

To search MediaSpace:

  1. Click on the SEARCH button at the top of the page
    Search button
  2. In the accompanying dialog box, enter your search term(s) you are looking for
  3. The Kaltura search engine will search the titles, descriptions, tags, quiz questions, inserted slides, and captions of any publicly available media in MediaSpace

Search Tips

  • Search is not case sensitive
  • Use quotations to search for a full term; for instance oregon state university will produce different results than "oregon state university"
  • Quotations will help you find a specific term; searching for atom will also turn up search results for atomic and anatomy, but "atom" will not
  • The Kaltura elastic search engine will perform fuzzy search logic, so searching for atom will produce search results including the term tom
  • Search results for captioned videos will include a clickable timestamp that will take the viewer directly to the point in the video where the term appears
