Kaltura: Re-upload a previously uploaded Kaltura Capture recording

Kaltura Capture is a screen recording tool for Windows and MacOS available to everyone at Oregon State University. It is designed to upload recordings to Kaltura, Oregon State University's video platform. On rare occasions, the upload may fail or the uploaded recording may fail to encode properly. In such situations, it may be necessary to re-upload a previously uploaded recording.

  • How do I re-upload a Kaltura Capture recording?

  • Oregon State
    • Kaltura

In order to re-upload a previously uploaded Kaltura Capture recording, you'll have to modify a configuration file linked to that specific entry.

  1. If Kaltura Capture is running, close the software
    • In Windows, right-click on the icon in your system tray and choose Quit
    • In MacOS, right-click or CTRL-click on the icon in launcher and choose Quit
  2. Locate the JSON file for the recording
    • In Windows, navigate to C:\Users\<connected user>\AppData\Local\Kaltura\Capture\Recordings
    • In MacOS, navigate to /Users/<connected user>/Library/Preferences/Kaltura/Capture/Recordings
  3. The filenames will not be descriptive so you'll have to sort by the most recently modified files to find the correct JSON file
  4. Copy/make a backup of the original JSON file
  5. Open the original JSON file in a text editor
  6. Delete all variables below the "uploadStatus" entry
  7. Modify the "uploadStatus" value from "uploaded" to "manual"
  8. Save the file
  9. Launch Kaltura Capture
  10. In the Kaltura Capture library, you should be able to once again upload the recording in question
