Zoom is Oregon State University's web collaboration and online meeting platform. It is available to all OSU students, faculty, and staff at http://zoom.oregonstate.edu/. Zoom includes functionality to record your meetings, both in the cloud and locally on your hard drive.

Explanation
By default, Zoom users can record meetings to the cloud. These recordings are automatically uploaded to Kaltura, OSU's video delivery platform, and can be accessed through MediaSpace and Canvas.
Note: The host must record the meeting or grant a participant the ability to record.

Method 1 - Cloud Recording (Recommended)
Cloud recording is automatically enabled for all OSU Zoom users. When you record a meeting and choose Record to the Cloud, the video, audio, and content are recorded in the Zoom cloud and transferred automatically to OSU MediaSpace. Once recording has stopped and finished processing, the recording file can be downloaded to a computer or streamed from a browser in MediaSpace.
To create a cloud recording:
- Start a meeting as the host.
- Click the Record button in the Zoom toolbar.
- Select Record to the Cloud from pop-up menu to begin recording.
- Hosts/Participants will see a Recording indicator in the top-left corner of Zoom while recording is active.
- To stop recording, click Pause/Stop Recording or End Meeting.
Note: Zoom recordings are automatically transferred to Kaltura and are accessible to you in My Media in Canvas and MediaSpace.

Method 2 - Local Recording
Local recording is available to all OSU Zoom users. Local recording allows users to record meeting video, audio, and content locally to a computer. The recorded files can be uploaded to a file storage service like OSU Box, MediaSpace, Canvas, and more.
Please ensure you adhere to FERPA as well as OSU's policies on Protected and Sensitive Information when dealing with recorded meetings.
Note: Local recording is not supported on iOS and Android. Use "Method 1 - Cloud Recording" if recording from iOS or Android.
Enable Local Recording
Follow these steps to enable local recording (this only needs to be done the first time):
- Navigate to oregonstate.zoom.us and click the "Sign in" button
- After logging in, navigate to PERSONAL > Settings and choose the Recording tab
- Toggle Local recording to ON
Create a Local Recording
- Start a meeting as the host.
- Click the Record button in the Zoom toolbar.
- Select Record on this Computer from pop-up menu to begin recording.
- Hosts/Participants will see a Recording indicator in the top-left corner of Zoom while recording is active.
Dial-in participants (via telephone) will hear a message informing them that the meeting is now being recorded unless disabled by the host.
- To stop recording, click Pause/Stop Recording or End Meeting.
If a user stops the recording and starts it again, a new video file will be created for the next recording segment. If a user pauses the recording and starts it again, Zoom will record to the same video file for the recording segment.
Once the recording has been stopped, Zoom will convert the recording so you can access the files. Once the conversion process is complete, the folder containing the recording files will open.
Note: By default, the audio/video file (MP4) will be named Zoom_0.mp4. The audio only file (M4A) is named audio_only.m4a.
