License Restrictions

Available for OSU faculty, staff and students on institutional and personal devices or computers for use in education and non-commercial research.

OSU has licenses for the Standard Campus Edition of SPSS + Missing Values. Below is a breakdown of the different versions.

Resolution

If installing from off campus, make sure to connect to the VPN before proceeding.

Windows

1. Navigate to \\software.oregonstate.edu\software\SPSS in Windows File Explorer.
   
2. If prompted for a login, enter "ONID\[Your ONID Username]" for the usernname and your ONID password for the password.
3. Find the desired version of SPSS and copy the Windows folder under it to your desktop.
4. Run the setup.exe file.
   
5. Click next.
6. Read and accept the license agreement.
7. When prompted, make sure "yes" is selected for installing IBM SPSS Statistics - Essentials for Python.
   
8. Read and accept the following license agreements.
9. Choose where to install SPSS (usually fine to leave this at the default).
10. Click Install.
11. When finished, make sure the box to open the licensing manager is selected.
12. When prompted for licensing, select "Authorized user license".
    
13. Enter the code provided by the Software Coordinator and click next.
14. IMPORTANT: For SPSS 25-28, apply the Log4j patch found in the SPSS [Version] folder. Follow the the steps in the text file for where to copy the updated jar files. AS OF 2/22/2023 SPSS 28.0.1.1 or later does not need the Log4j patch applies.

MacOS

1. Open Finder and select "Go -> Connect to Server".
2. Enter "smb://software.oregonstate.edu/software" and click "Connect".
   
3. If prompted for a login, enter "ONID\[Your ONID Username]" for the usernname and your ONID password for the password.
4. Find the SPSS folder and desired version.
5. Copy the Mac folder for that version to your desktop.
6. Double click on the .dmg file to open the installer.
   
7. Double click on SPSS_Statistics_Installer.
8. Click Okay.
   
9. Read and accept the license agreement.
   
10. Make sure "yes" is selcted for installing Python for SPSS.
    
11. Choose where to install SPSS (default location is usually fine).
    
12. Make sure the checkbox at the end of the installer is checked to open the licensing wizard.
13. Select "Authorized User License" and enter the activation code provided by the Software Coordinator and click next.

Linux

1. Linux installers are available under \\software.oregonstate.edu\software\SPSS

License Renewal

These steps are for when SPSS is already installed, but a new activation code is needed. New activation codes can be requested from here: https://oregonstate.teamdynamix.com/TDClient/1935/Portal/Requests/ServiceDet?ID=43973

1. Find and launch IBM SPSS Statistics License Authorization Wizard (LAW).
   NOTE: On Windows machines, right click -> run as admin on the LAW to make changes.
   1. In newer versions of SPSS, the Licesning Wizard can be accessed in SPSS via File->Manage License->Launch License Wizard
2. Select the first option: “Authorized user license” and click next.
3. Enter the new activation code and click next.
4. A message should popup that the license has been activated.
   NOTE: If renewing SPSS on a laptop, make sure the laptop is not connected to a docking station when licensing the software.
